Rep. Clyde Supports Israel Supplemental Aid Bill

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 6126, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, which passed this evening by a vote of 226-196:

“Given Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attack on October 7th and ongoing assault against our greatest Middle Eastern ally, Israel, this legislation is not only timely but imperative,” said Clyde. “We must ensure Israel has the resources needed to successfully defeat evil Iran-backed Hamas terrorists so it can protect its citizens. In addition to bolstering Israel’s defense capabilities, House Republicans’ supplemental aid package strengthens our own national security by replenishing our domestic defense stockpiles. Thankfully, under Speaker Johnson’s leadership, this legislation is also fully offset by rescissions from bloated IRS funding in President Biden’s severely misguided Inflation ‘Expansion’ Act — providing a commonsense solution to support our ally in its time of need without placing an additional financial burden on American taxpayers. I proudly voted for this necessary and fiscally responsible supplemental aid bill, and I remain committed to fortifying both the U.S. and Israel’s national security amidst increasing threats from our adversaries across the globe.”

Prior to the vote, Rep. Clyde spoke in favor of H.R. 6126 on the House floor. Watch his full remarks HERE.

Background

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act is a $14.3 billion emergency supplemental aid bill that provides Israel with the resources needed to defend itself against Iran-backed Hamas terrorists. This legislation is fully offset by rescissions from President Biden’s so-called “Inflation Reduction Act,” specifically the enhanced funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act would:

Strengthen U.S. Military Readiness

  • $4.4 billion to replenish domestic defense stockpiles

Bolster Israel’s Defense Capabilities

  • $4 billion to replenish Iron Dome and David’s Sling missile defense systems
  • $3.5 billion in Foreign Military Financing for the procurement of advanced weapons systems and defense articles and services
  • $1.2 billion for the continued development of the Iron Beam system to counter short-range threats
  • $1 billion to support artillery and munitions production

Support U.S. Personnel & Citizens

  • $150 million for an enhanced security presence at the U.S. Embassy
  • $50 million for the evacuation of U.S. citizens

Prior to passing H.R. 6126, the House sent a powerful message that the U.S. stands with Israel in its greatest time of need by passing H.Res. 771 with overwhelming bipartisan support. This resolution reaffirms our nation’s commitment to Israel’s security and forcefully condemns Hamas’ terrorist attack against our strongest ally in the Middle East.
