Contact: Claire Hurley Rep. Clyde released the following statement regarding H.R. 3755, the “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act”: “I have and always will be a strong defender of the sanctity of life and stand in strong opposition to the Democrats’ abortion on demand bill. I firmly believe that life begins at conception, but objectively speaking, we can all understand that a heartbeat is a defining evidence of life. When a heartbeat ceases, then life ceases. So, when a heartbeat is present, we know there is life. To stop a heartbeat is to end an innocent human life – that is murder.” The Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act would eliminate nearly all pro-life policies at the state and federal level to allow abortions on demand until birth, making illegal any mandatory reflection period, parental notification requirement, and even Georgia’s heartbeat law. Moreover, this bill strips conscience protections for medical professionals placing them at risk of losing their jobs if they object to performing an abortion and it will restrict faith-based health facilities from receiving public funding – the same public tax dollars that will now be used to perform abortions after Democrats stripped Hyde Amendment protections to ban taxpayer-funded abortions. “Science tells us that unborn children have a heartbeat at 6 weeks gestational age, develop fingers and toes at 10 weeks, and can feel and react to pain as early as 12 weeks. This bill ends viable heartbeats and so it ends life.” Mr. Clyde went on to say, “Life is the first of the unalienable rights mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. And to secure these rights, Government is instituted. To protect life is our first responsibility. We cannot ignore this.” |
