Enhancing the safety, well-being, and economic prosperity of Georgia’s Ninth District remains one of my top priorities, and I’m thankful to both Buford City officials and Norfolk Southern representatives for working with my team to achieve this pivotal goal.”
“Working together with local officials is critical to ensuring smooth operations and improving the quality of life for those in the communities we serve. We are grateful to Congressman Andrew Clyde and the City of Buford for their partnership in developing a solution that benefits the community and keeps our trains moving for the nation's economy.” — Conner Poe, Assistant Vice President of Government Relations for Norfolk Southern
“Congressman Andrew Clyde assisted the City of Buford with an ongoing issue with blockage of train crossings by Norfolk Southern. Once contacted, Congressman Clyde and his staff began working to facilitate a meeting with City officials and local Norfolk Southern representatives.
“On the afternoon of June 28, 2023, representatives of Norfolk Southern, Buford City Officials, and Congressman Andrew Clyde met at Buford City Hall to discuss the situation. The City was able to convey its concerns to Norfolk Southern regarding the long-term blockage of the six railway crossings and the heightened anxiety it has created for the citizens of Buford. The City also discussed in depth the critical delays burdening Police, Fire, and EMS when responding to emergency situations.
“During the meeting, Norfolk Southern’s representatives presented a viable solution to all concerned which, in theory, should address Congressman Clyde and the City’s concerns. Since the meeting, Norfolk Southern representatives have remained in contact with City Officials as to their progress in addressing this issue.
“The City of Buford wishes to thank Congressman Clyde and his staff for taking this initiative and being involved with day-to-day concerns in Georgia’s 9th District.” — Bryan Kerlin, Buford City Manager
