CLYDE: $1.7 Trillion Omnibus is America Last in Action
Washington,
December 23, 2022
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released the following statement after voting against the $1.7 trillion omnibus appropriations bill, which ultimately passed this afternoon by a vote of 225-201-1:
“With the help of far too many Republicans, Democrats achieved their dangerous dream of extending their Big Government Socialist agenda before losing their iron grip of one-party Democrat rule in Washington. As the American people struggle to make ends meet amidst President Biden’s self-inflicted economic crisis, lawmakers shamelessly voted to pour fuel on the inflationary fire in order to advance wasteful spending and radical policies. From spending taxpayer dollars on ridiculous pork projects and boosting federal agencies’ budgets as they infringe on our freedoms to enhancing the border security of foreign nations while intentionally abandoning our porous southern border, this $1.7 trillion omnibus undoubtedly delivers Americans a nightmare before Christmas.
“This spending spree also hands an additional $45 billion to Ukraine — with zero oversight. I remain firmly opposed to sending another dime to Ukraine until we conduct a full audit of the billions in U.S. aid already sent overseas. I understand President Zelensky working to put his country first, but it’s past time for President Biden, our Commander-in-Chief, to put America First.
“From everything tucked within the $1.7 trillion package to the disgraceful manner in which it was negotiated and passed, this bloated omnibus bill is nothing more than America Last in action. I resolutely voted NO on this shameful waste of taxpayer dollars and deceitful advancement of the harmful policies destroying our nation, and I look forward to fighting for fiscal responsibility and sanity under a House Republican majority next year.”
