Reps. Andrew S. Clyde (R-GA) and Ted Budd (R-NC) send letter to ATF

For Immediate Release:

Contact: Claire Hurley

Today, Representatives Andrew S. Clyde (R-GA) and Ted Budd (R-NC) sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Acting Director Marvin Richardson to voice their opposition to two proposed regulations issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) that infringe on the Second Amendment rights of every American:

“As an avid supporter of the Second Amendment and a Federal Firearms Licensee by trade, I believe “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms” is the most fundamental right enumerated in the U.S. Constitution. The ATF is trying to pull wool over the eyes of lawful gun owners across America and in the same breath penalize disabled combat veterans. The ATF’s preferred path forward is wrong and sets a dangerous precedent. – Rep. Clyde

On the proposed regulations, Rep. Budd added: “Officials at the ATF should be focused on upholding and enhancing the right of a veteran or a regular citizen to exercise their God-given constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Any and all attempts to curtail the Second Amendment should be opposed, and that’s why I’m glad to join this effort with Rep. Clyde.”

The Founding Fathers knew the first step towards tyranny is to disarm the citizenry. We are deeply troubled by the fact that the ATF appears more interested in attacking the Constitution than it is in upholding it. As such, we urge Attorney General Garland and Acting Director Richardson to join us in upholding the Constitution and withdraw the proposed regulations immediately. The letter may be found here.
