Rep. Clyde Issues Statement on the Fall of Afghanistan
Washington, DC,
August 15, 2021
For Immediate Release Contact: Claire Hurley Rep. Andrew Clyde (GA-09) issued the following statement concerning the fall of Afghanistan: Losing Afghanistan displays total incompetence. This was not inevitable. In fact, it was totally avoidable. For a Commander in Chief to be so naive and detached from reality as to lose an entire country in just days proves that there was no viable plan in place to deal with contingencies. This is the most staggering failure of leadership, and the worst betrayal of our service member’s sacrifices in a generation. If we did have a plan, then it was so inept that both Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley should resign immediately. We need war fighters who could see this coming and leadership that takes appropriate action to preserve our national security. Apparently, we have neither. As a three-time combat veteran of Iraq and Kuwait, this display of amateur hour leadership from both the White House and the top level of the Department of Defense undercuts our national security both at home and abroad. Their decisions have embarrassed our nation and unnecessarily put at serious risk the lives of thousands of American citizens, both military and civilian, at Kabul Airport. This is Biden’s Saigon! ### |
