Rep. Clyde Joins GA GOP Delegation in Urging Warnock & Ossoff to End Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Andrew Clyde (GA-09) joined his Georgia Republican Delegation colleagues in urging Senators Warnock (D-GA) and Ossoff (D-GA) to set aside partisan politics and join them in reopening the government.

On September 19th, House Republicans passed a clean, 7-week continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open and operating ahead of the September 30th funding deadline. Every Georgia House Republican supported the nonpartisan measure, which has been routinely adopted in previous years under both Republican and Democrat administrations. In fact, Congressional Democrats passed CRs 13 times under the Biden Administration.

The Senate has now voted on the CR five times, yet the short-term funding measure has not garnered the 60 votes required to invoke cloture and advance the CR. All five times, Senators Warnock and Ossoff both voted to shut down the government and keep the government closed by opposing the clean, bipartisan continuing resolution.

Today, Rep. Clyde joined the Georgia GOP Delegation on a letter urging Georgia’s Democrat Senators to abandon their partisan games and end the government shutdown. In the letter, the legislators highlight how the Democrat-led shutdown is impacting their constituents and the country.

This inaction has real consequences for Georgia families and hardworking Americans. Food assistance, veterans' benefits, and vital support for women and children have been disrupted, while federal employees and service members now face uncertainty over their paychecks and livelihood.”

Additionally, the lawmakers warn Senators Warnock and Ossoff’s votes to keep the government shut down are hurting Georgia’s farmers.

This shutdown has also left Georgia's farmers in a precarious position. The Farm Service Agency has halted new farm and commodity loans, which are critical for family farms, particularly during harvest season. Disaster relief payments, which help producers recover from floods, droughts, and other severe weather events, have also been frozen. This compounds the uncertainty faced by our farmers, who are already grappling with unpredictable growing conditions. Our farmers feed America, and they deserve a government that functions as dependably as they do.”

In closing, the Georgia Republican Delegation implore Senators Warnock and Ossoff to put Georgians above the Democrats’ partisan funding fight.

We urge you to stop playing that game and join us in ending this shutdown. The needs of Georgia families and farmers are far too urgent to be caught in the crossfire of partisan gamesmanship. Our duty is to our shared Georgia constituents, and we must act together for their own good.”
