GAINESVILLE, GA — Yesterday, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) attended the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Home Dedication in Pendergrass, GA for U.S. Army Sergeant Samuel Walley, who was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan.
On June 6th, 2012, Sgt. Walley was hit by an IED while deployed in Afghanistan. He suffered a traumatic brain injury in the blast and lost both his right leg above the knee and his left arm below the elbow.
Tunnel to Towers, which has served veterans since 9/11, presented a new, mortgage-free smart home to Sgt. Walley, his wife, Hannah, and their two children.
“Sergeant Walley exemplifies heroism, patriotism, and resilience,” said Clyde. “While we can never fully thank or repay Sgt. Walley enough for the scars of war he endured for our precious liberties, I hope that this home represents a strong reminder of our Northeast Georgia community and our entire nation’s sincere gratitude for his valiant military service.”
During the ceremony, Rep. Clyde delivered remarks honoring Sgt. Walley’s courageous service and presented him with a U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol Building.
“Sergeant Walley’s selflessness to protect and defend our Stars and Stripes will never be forgotten,” said Clyde. “As a Navy combat veteran, I’m incredibly grateful to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for going above and beyond to support America’s veterans and their families.”
