WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 7688, Democrats’ “Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act.” This legislation ultimately passed the House this afternoon by a vote of 217-207.
“Instead of reversing course on the Left’s anti-American energy agenda, President Biden and House Democrats are taking a page straight out of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro’s playbook. This legislation is nothing more than a socialist short-term fix that would bring back the disastrous gas lines and shortages from the 1970s. As gas prices keep skyrocketing, Democrats’ bandaid solutions and severely misguided priorities offer zero help to Americans struggling to fill their gas tanks. I urge House Democrats and the Biden Administration to join Republicans’ efforts to truly alleviate the ongoing pain at the pump by fully unleashing American energy. Until we approve pending pipeline permits, resume all oil and gas leases on federal lands, and end the regulatory assault on domestic energy development, the American people will continue to dangerously face high gas prices.”
