Last year, Grace Lee won the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Georgia’s Ninth District for her beautiful submission, Unmerited Love.
Background:
Since 1982, the annual bipartisan Congressional Art Competition has served as an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and acknowledge the artistic talents of their young constituents. The winning artwork from each congressional district hangs in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. Every day, U.S. Representatives rush through this tunnel to either vote on a bill or attend a critical committee hearing. Additionally, the House’s 6,000 staffers take millions of visitors and constituents through this tunnel annually. Having a piece of artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol is a significant achievement for any young artist.
Qualifying Students:
Any high school student in Georgia’s Ninth Congressional District.
Artwork Requirements:
Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, D.C. framed. Even when framed, it must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds.
