Rep. Clyde Applauds GA State Senate Fani Willis Investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) sent a letter to Georgia State Senator William Cowsert, who was recently named Chairman of the Special Committee investigating allegations of misconduct by Fulton County District Attorney (DA) Fani Willis, applauding this critical development, outlining new allegations, and offering assistance as a member of the House Appropriations Committee.

In addition to noting allegations surrounding DA Fani Willis’ relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, which Willis recently confirmed, Rep. Clyde highlighted Wade’s alarming taxpayer-funded services.

“Based on invoices originating from the ‘Law Offices of Nathan J. Wade,’ the Fulton County District Attorney’s office paid Mr. Wade $653,881 at taxpayer expense since January 2022 for multiple billable hours, including for meetings with the Biden Administration as well as meetings concerning ‘January 6th.’ If the Fulton County District Attorney’s office was found to have arranged meetings with White House officials at taxpayer expense to discuss the prosecution of President Biden’s chief political opponent in the 2024 Presidential Election, as we believe is alleged in the billing statements submitted for payment, this collusion would constitute a considerable breach of ethics and a serious conflict of interest.”

Additionally, Rep. Clyde spotlighted new allegations related to DA Willis’ potential pattern of misconduct and misuse of federal funds.

“Leaked recordings reveal that DA Fani Willis was confronted by a staffer, Amanda Timpson, in a November 19, 2021, meeting after the DA’s former campaign social media manager, Michael Cuffee, planned to use part of a nearly $500,000 grant for travel, computers, and ‘swag.’ This grant, which Timpson referenced in the audio, is a $488,594 federal grant specifically intended for the creation of a Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention facility. While the center has yet to open, the grant has been used to purchase at least $1,245 in items from Dell Computer Corporation. Records show that DA Willis later fired Timpson after being confronted about the misuse of these funds. These allegations are deeply concerning and highlight a troubling pattern of potentially unethical behavior and misuse of taxpayer funds by DA Willis.”

As the sole Georgia Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Clyde also offered to assist the special committee’s investigation.

“As your special committee moves forward with investigating these allegations of misconduct by DA Fani Willis, please let me know how I may assist you in ensuring that federal taxpayer dollars appropriated by Congress have not been misused.”
