WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) announced that he invites high school students in Georgia’s Ninth District to participate in the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. Submissions are due by May 4th, and the winning artist’s entry will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol building.
“The annual Congressional Art Competition presents a unique opportunity to highlight young artists from across our great nation and display their talent in the People’s House,” said Clyde. “I encourage high school students in the Ninth to showcase their creativity by participating in this competition, and I look forward to seeing their brilliant designs.”

Last year, Lucy Basso won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Georgia’s Ninth District for her beautiful watercolor painting, Stovall Mill Covered Bridge.
Background:
Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The competition is open to all high school students in the Ninth District, and the winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
Qualifying Students:
Any high school student in Georgia’s Ninth Congressional District.
Artwork Requirements:
Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, D.C., framed. Even when framed, it must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds.
Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows:
Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.
Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)
Collages: must be two dimensional
Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

Photographs
Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted.
How to Submit Artwork:
